We spent the Labor Day long weekend up at the Lassen Volcanic National Park. An often ignored national park (compared to the more popular Mount Shasta NP nearby), Lassen has pretty amazing volcanic landscapes.

On the left, a picture we took on a prior trip to Lassen in early spring, where snow prevented us from visiting a few of the more interesting sites. On the right, a return trip on Labor Day (late summer). This is a volcanic cone - the volcano itself erupted aboutĀ five centuries or so ago. You can actually walk up this cone and into it. It's no longer active - we think. |

| The sceneries were amazing, from Martian-red sandy landscapes to somewhat alien looking terrains. For uniqueness, this national park had a lot to offer. |

And here are some close-ups of multi-colored, burn-your-limb-off (and yes, someone has lost a limb in one of these), smelly, noisy, bubbly active areas in Lassen. |
| And a few other pictures of us up and about in the area. |
